Athlete Guide

Beginners:  The Long Course Weekend is the perfect format for everyone; we all have to start somewhere, and this event provides the best stepping stones for those of you curious about multisport or individual disciplines.

First Timers: LCW NZ is not a triathlon event. You can choose any of the disciplines and distances as individual events to suit your individual abilities and desires. It can be just a cycle event for you if that’s what you want out of LCW NZ. If you do feel like doing two disciplines, you can. If you feel like doing three, again you can. If you feel like doing all the full distances though and want to try earn the world-famous fourth LCW medal, then there are two things you must do to achieve it.

  1. You must enter the Full, Half or Quarter LCW NZ via our website as ONE entry - do not enter each discipline separately. Full LCW NZ competitors will not receive the fourth medal at the finish if they enter separate events.
  2. You must complete all three Full distances within the cut off times for each event or you will not receive your fourth medal (you will still receive your individual event medals).

If you have never participated in a triathlon or are just starting to train for a triathlon, Long Course Weekend is the ideal way to experience what a triathlon is. There are different options for each discipline, so you can choose exactly what suits you. Below are all the distances on offer during Long Course Weekend New Zealand. You can also look at the course maps here.
